Description

Qualifications:  High School Diploma or GED Diploma, Paraprofessional Certification (OSDE)

 

Reports to:  Assigned Teacher, Principal, and/ or Assistant Principal

 

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Works cooperatively with the classroom teacher in the implementation of the instructional program.
  • Works to help children achieve success and develop positive feelings about themselves and school.
  • Serves as model in developing children's language and behavior.
  • Assists the certified teacher(s) or related service personnel in implementing the student(s) IEP.
  • Assists in preparing for instruction (collecting and/or creating resource materials, manipulatives, visual and other teaching aids).
  • Assists in the personal care of the child/children.
  • Ensures the safety of the child/children.
  • Provides supports necessary because of physical, health or behavioral concerns to enable a child to access the educational program.
  • Uses assistive technology if needed by the student(s).
  • Assists in supervising such activities as playground, fire drills, lunchroom, field trips, car riders, bus loading and individual or small group activities, snack, toilet and clothing routines and any duties needed during the contract day.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Maintains professional and cooperative relationships with teachers, colleagues, patrons, students, and administrators.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Abides by all district, state and federal laws, policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as requested by the Supervisor.

 

Terms of Employment:  Number of calendar days and compensation based on approved compensation schedule and employee work calendars

 

Evaluation:  Evaluation by Principal or Assistant Principal in accordance with BOE policy  

 

Physical Demands: 

  • Ability to routinely and continually bend, squat, stand, walk, or climb stairs.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds, support up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to do outside duties in inclement weather.
  • Ability to support and stabilize students with physical disabilities.
